ABOUT TAMSA TANZANIA

Tanzania Medical Student Association (TAMSA) is the sole National Organization for Medical Students. It was inaugurated in 1990s, having originated from the Dar es Salaam Medical Students’ Association (DUMSA), which was established in 1968 under University of Dar es salaam.

TAMSA is a member of the International Federation for Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), which is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organizations recognized by the World Health Organization as an official international forum for Medical Students. For more than seventy years since its foundation, IFMSA has been representing, connecting and engaging every day with network of 1.3 million dedicated and inspired medical students from 135 National Members Organizations (NMO) in 125 countries around the globe.

The general Secretariat of TAMSA is currently located at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and unifies Medical Students from 13 Medical

Our work is divided into four main global health areas: public health, sexual &reproductive health, medical education and human rights & peace. Each year, we Organize over 13,000 clinical and research exchanges programs for our students to Explore innovations in medicine, health-care systems and healthcare delivery in other Settings.

OBJECTIVES OF TAMSA

  • i. Empowering medical students to use their knowledge and capacities for the Benefit of society.
  • ii. Providing a forum for medical students throughout the country to discuss Topics related to individual and community health, education and science And to formulate policies through such discussions.
  • iii. Promoting and facilitating professional and scientific exchanges as well as Projects and extracurricular training for medical students, thereby Sensitizing them to other cultures and societies and their health problems.
  • iv. To project the positive image of the medical students in the country and Worldwide.
  • v. Establish networks with other Medical Students Associations in Africa and Worldwide.
  • vi. To generate initiative in population and health surveys as well as in Biomedical research in Tanzania Medical Students, to correlate and Disseminate original findings for promotion of health.
  • vii. To encourage members to work towards improvement of health conditions In Tanzania and Africa in general through participation and rendering help Activities where medical students can be of assistance.
  • viii. To promote and encourage the members’ adherence to medical ethics.
  • ix. To encourage and facilitate members to attend various meetings so as to Strengthen their knowledge to suit the century of science and technology.
